The Power of Focus

It’s been a little while since I last wrote… which is actually a bit of a good thing.

You see, I was out with my kids a few weeks back. We were visiting some used book stores… and in one of those stores, they had a bargain wall of dollar books that for some reason drew my attention. I once to work in a used book store and remember how on occasion we would put things back there that we weren’t familiar with, or that were over printed and were common on the market.

In any event, I came across this book titled “The Power of Focus: What the Worlds Greatest Achievers Know about The Secret of Financial Freedom and Success”. It was printed in 2000. I did a quick scan, and thought, “hmmmm… why not?”

This book definitely has a business focus, but beyond that it represents a very practical approach to achieving your goals.

One of the key elements, it seems, from many different sources - is to focus your efforts on action that are aligned with your goals, and reduce the energy you spend on actions that are not aligned to your goals.

This seems pretty obvious, of course. But how many of us actually practice this?

Needless to say, I have been rethinking a good many things lately.

All too often in my life, I have taken a shot gun approach to getting what I want. I am not entirely clear, I aim in the general direction, and pull the trigger. There is a blast of unfocused energy, and I am bound to hit something!

Was I on target? Did I hit the mark? Can I learn from my actions?

No real way to know.

So after just a few short weeks of running around all excited about The Vibe Report, and High Vibe It, I am in a place where I am really rethinking my goals. This is a great place to be as well. But it is definitely new territory for me.

One of the interesting challenges is to work through the idea of having fun while focusing on my goals and dreams, and learning how to let go when something isn’t feeling right. In other words, my goals are not upstream, they are downstream.

I can have fun getting there…. but this does NOT necessarily mean I will get there by simply having fun :)
