The Power of Focus

It’s been a little while since I last wrote… which is actually a bit of a good thing.

You see, I was out with my kids a few weeks back. We were visiting some used book stores… and in one of those stores, they had a bargain wall of dollar books that for some reason drew my attention. I once to work in a used book store and remember how on occasion we would put things back there that we weren’t familiar with, or that were over printed and were common on the market.

In any event, I came across this book titled “The Power of Focus: What the Worlds Greatest Achievers Know about The Secret of Financial Freedom and Success”. It was printed in 2000. I did a quick scan, and thought, “hmmmm… why not?”

This book definitely has a business focus, but beyond that it represents a very practical approach to achieving your goals.

One of the key elements, it seems, from many different sources - is to focus your efforts on action that are aligned with your goals, and reduce the energy you spend on actions that are not aligned to your goals.

This seems pretty obvious, of course. But how many of us actually practice this?

Needless to say, I have been rethinking a good many things lately.

All too often in my life, I have taken a shot gun approach to getting what I want. I am not entirely clear, I aim in the general direction, and pull the trigger. There is a blast of unfocused energy, and I am bound to hit something!

Was I on target? Did I hit the mark? Can I learn from my actions?

No real way to know.

So after just a few short weeks of running around all excited about The Vibe Report, and High Vibe It, I am in a place where I am really rethinking my goals. This is a great place to be as well. But it is definitely new territory for me.

One of the interesting challenges is to work through the idea of having fun while focusing on my goals and dreams, and learning how to let go when something isn’t feeling right. In other words, my goals are not upstream, they are downstream.

I can have fun getting there…. but this does NOT necessarily mean I will get there by simply having fun :)

What color is your parachute and the law of attraction…

I picked up my copy of “What Color Is Your Parachute?” today, and for some reason, turned to the page with these words:

“Developing A Picture

… ‘The clearer your vision of what you seek, the closer you are to finding it. For, what you are seeking is also seeking you.’ Sounds crazy, but I’ve seen it happen too many times, not to believe it.”

I have not yet read through this book, but am quite struck by that statement as it relates to what I have learned this past year about the law of attraction.

On that same page, it seems to me the author pretty much describes the “vision board” process. Pretty interesting.

Here’s more on wikipedia about Richard Nelson Bolles, the author of the parachute books.

Just wanted to share!

Imagination, creativity, and the human spirit

I want to write about some of the stories from the Vibe Report that have remained active in my imagination, and share a few things that didn’t make it to the Vibe Report.

foam-city

First, I am still loving the post that contained the Foam City story… so I thought I would share the link to some of the Foam City photos that showed up on flickr.

Another story that caught my eye recently, which did *not* make it to the VR is this one:

Marriage needn’t mean conjugal living space - April 18, 2008

“in North America and Europe: committed and monogamous long-term relationships, including marriages, in which partners, by circumstance or by choice, maintain separate abodes, make up anywhere between eight and 14 per cent of intimate relationships”

Seems to me that way too many people base their perceptions of reality on what they see on the tube. Life is far richer and more complex that anything that seems to be showing up on prime time these days.

One last found item this week - which may yet show up in the VR:

emergence_248886067_c2f31297f8

Photo by - Stumbling in the darkness.

This image is almost startling to me. It seems almost symbolic of so much of what I am trying to capture and thinking about with my web work - the emergence of the human spirit into the world.

This image also highlights the challenges of building and creating on the web. Compared to other art forms like photography - web creation can sometimes seem like sculpting with Legos.

But on the other hand, I guess that’s where the fun comes into play!

Vibe Report as found art

This post is a little more about The Vibe Report, the intentions behind it, and the future of the project.

In some ways, I consider it an evolving “found art” project.

It is just beginning, but I would like to look ways to modify the contents, and bring together these headlines in new and interesting ways. I plan on playing with the vibe, as interpreted by me, and producing different outputs.

Some other top of mind ideas about this project include:

  • Daily high vibes
  • Celebration of humanity
  • Snapshot
  • Seeing the world through a lens of appreciation.
  • Channel
  • Allowing the good to shine through
  • Daily creation using found items

In other words, The Vibe Report is a project that is evolving along several dimensions… it is a practice for me, a creative process, a node on the network of Internet-connected information, and a way to find and exercise my own voice with minimal textual input, which is a bit of a challenge for my otherwise wordy mind.

Where imagination and reality work in synchronicity

Doing today’s Vibe Report was a blast.

When I started this new site, I was somehow worried I would find myself on some days not finding anything positive or interesting to share.

My experience has been anything but that.

In fact, the only challenge I have is that I want to spend MORE time looking at all the cool things going on.

In retrospect, and for my own future reference, I think my initial fears were more a matter of me fearing I would wake up some days not able to *see* the positive… this is a beautiful observation and reminder to me - and a validation of why I set out to do the Vibe Report to begin with.

So on to the idea behind this post’s title…

Today’s Vibe Report captivated my imagination on several fronts.

For one - there’s that awesome story about Sony’s Foam City. I absolutely LOVE seeing stories where people find ways to place us in that special place where we are filled with wonder. Even better to read those rare stories where a major brand is able to do this.

I am still reminded of this dreamy Adidas commercial:

Imagination and wonder are the gateways to so many good things that life has to offer.

Today’s Vibe Report also caught my imagination because of the juxtaposition of the New York Times article about money and happiness and the article following that about how happiness comes from within, published on the same day, from India Times.

As if that’s not enough, what great fun to also stumble across stories about doggy mansions and the possibility of someday growing flowers on the moon!

I am just feeling and wanting to share my gratitude for our collective imagination, and ability to still find a sense of wonder.

2008 is a year of transformation

Can you feel it too?

Everywhere I look, I see it happening. I have friends who are taking off on new jobs. It seems like many are experiencing a renewed interest in politics. Even the economic downturn has some people taking a closer look at their core values… making hard choices is sometimes a way forward to a better life.

And here at High Vibe It - things are changing too.

First, I want to send out my greatest appreciation for all of the support the site is getting. Traffic and membership are up. There are still great stories coming in.

And I am personally finding my groove with this work too.

I have revisited the whole concept of News That Resonates. I plan on growing that concept in the near future, and will be adding other sites and ideas to the mix.

And more recently, I have quietly launched the High Vibed Shop. Although the selection is limited in the beginning, this will be an awesome place for me to share designs and ideas.

As if that’s not enough, I want to say that the Vibe Report is a blast. I woke up this morning and found myself saying - wow, can’t wait to see what we’ve been up to lately! Checking in on all the wonderful things people are doing is like checking in with family to see what great things have been happening to them - only it’s a global vibe. You know?

Next up is a focus on my writing. There are several things in the works on the writing front. Opportunities and experiences that I am very excited about, but not quite ready to shout out to the world.

With that, I am also thinking this blog will become more and more a place for me to check in like this, and share my personal perspective and information on the High Vibe It site.

So as you can see, much is happening. Change can be beautiful, even when challenging. Launching new endeavors comes with its own set of fears. But it’s all good in the end. We’re all experimenting and at play in this grand adventure.

Thank you for stopping by and checking in!

Vibe Report is Live

Vibe Report is LIVE.

Vibe Report is a place for a daily dose of high-vibing, uplifting, positive, light-hearted, and dare-I-say, inspirational links, stories, and videos.

It’s one more drop in the ocean of information that is the Internet. One more push towards the positive side of things.

This experience is amazing to me. Throughout this past two years, my relationship with reality has been shifting… almost literally. As I have moved slowly away from trying to control the world around me, I am seeing the world in new ways.

Another way to state this is that the way I interact with information is changing. I was once a passive consumer, absorbing toxic along with the good. I thought my job was to absorb it all, and make sense of it, find the truth. The hard truth.

Now, I see (again) that the Universe of Information is far greater than anything human consciousness can grasp in any one, concrete way. Rather, humanity has developed many varied and beautiful ways of accessing the (nearly?) infinite fields or dimensions of information available to us.

Following this growing awareness, I am seeing again the incredible seeds wisdom embedded in the world’s great spiritual traditions. There exists no tension within me when I experience the knowledge that scientific activity brings forth, as it in no way contradicts that which I experience from my spiritual practices.

There will always be *noise* in the system. It is part and parcel of the process. A great part of the Joy of being human is learning to tune your sense of things. Or, Attunement, if you will :)

The other aspect of my journey that is unfolding here is the key aspect of Integration. This is one of the great milestones in life, when your spiritual life is in complete congruence with all the other aspects of your life. After all, we are emotional beings, psychological beings, and social creatures by nature. Our social context is currently geared around financial transactions. You cannot separate money out from the rest of life.

What an amazing Joy and blessing to find yourself in a place in life where your work is 100% aligned with your spirit. This is where I am heading.

This is a long way of saying that the Vibe Report is one of my practices. While many spiritual practices are rightfully private, others are joyously public.

The Vibe Report is one which I enjoy sharing.

The dream is coming into focus

Well, one of many dreams, I guess :)

Things are coming together here with High Vibe It, and the originating concept, which was to have a network of related sites.

The one I am most interested by at the moment is the Vibe Report. I’ll drop back here to formally announce that launch, probably by next week!

In the meantime, check out the Shop High Vibe It store… pretty cool to be able to find that stuff so easily. Don’t get me wrong, I love Amazon… but these subsets of content really help things stand out more on their own, ya know?

High Vibe It - Still Kicking

I got a kick out of this typical spin on the positive news “trend”.

Somehow, it is easy for some to miss the connection between the wave of Positive News sites, and the rise in Global Consciousness.

While mainstream media focuses on global warming, I am getting the feeling that there is a far greater change underway.

So I am just checking in here to say that the High Vibe It site is still kicking, and happy to be part of it all. We have had a few growing pains as we have learned how to best deal with spammers… but beyond that, we’re still serving up plenty of positive stories and blog posts to help you get your vibration where it will serve you best.

Come on over, and check out the upcoming section, and vote for the stories you like. That’s how they get to the front page, and in front of many other people!
